I am new to yoga, what do I need to know before my first class?
Yoga is for everyone, every shape, every size, every level of experience. At Nourishing Storm, we love sharing the practice with new students as the benefits can be transformational and serve to fulfill whatever one is looking for ie. balance, strength, flexibility, peace and so much more. You do not need to know anything or have any experience to begin yoga. We just ask that you keep in mind that yoga is a practice and it does take time. The best practice you can have is one where you listen to your body and we’ll teach you how to do that.
What do I need to bring to class?
You do not need to bring anything to class, however most students like to bring their own mat, towel and water. We offer loaner mats, bolsters, blocks and straps and have water along with a variety of drinks for purchase at the front desk.
Do I need to sign up for classes online ahead of time?
You do not need to sign up ahead of time online, but it is preferred. Our studio only fits a certain number of students per class so students that sign up for class will get first priority when classes fill. Signing up takes about a minute once your account is created. If you are not sure how to do this, we’ll show you how!
How many students are in classes?
We pride ourselves in being a small, intimate studio, so you get personal attention as well as feel there is enough space for you to stretch out! Each class varies in size but on average we have about 8-12 students in each class.
What are the best yoga classes for beginners?
All instructors in each class will give modifications and variations to each pose so our classes are open to all levels. However, the following classes are geared towards a slow, gentle practice that is great for beginners: Yoga Calm, Yoga Bliss, Yoga Restore and Yoga Begin. Other classes such as Yoga Flow and Yoga Strong move a little quicker and are less instructional, but lots of fun.
How do I get started?
You can either stop in and talk to one of our staff members or you can create an account online by signing up for your first class. We offer packages for those new to yoga and those new to our studio in addition to class cards, drop ins and membership. More info on getting started here.
Do I need a partner for dance classes?
No, partners are not required.
What should I wear?
Students are encouraged to wear whatever they feel comfortable dancing in. Specific workout clothes or dance clothes are not needed. Some students attend class right after work and do not change their clothes, while others prefer to be comfortable and wear jeans.
For ZUMBA: students are to wear workout clothes and sneakers with no a smooth sole is recommended or jazz shoes if you’d like. No Flip flops.
What is the difference between private and group lessons?
Private lessons are taught one on one with only the student and instructor. Group Lessons are held in a classroom environment with an average of 8 couples. Private lessons are very flexible and can be scheduled whenever you and the instructor are available; whereas, Group Lessons meet at a regularly scheduled time each week.
What about shoes?
Comfort is the key. Ladies are encouraged to wear a small heel (a non-flip-flop) but can also dance in flats if that would be more comfortable. Gentlemen should avoid sneakers or any other shoe with a rubber sole. A dress shoe or something with a smooth sole is recommended. If you would like to make a small investment, a ballroom shoe is ideal for both ladies and men, and some are available for purchase at the dance studio. Ballroom shoes are usually classified by having a suede sole which helps with executing spins.
For ZUMBA: sneakers with a smooth sole is recommended. sneakers with a rubber bottom are not recommended since they provide too much traction and will impede turning. No Flip flops.

“And it’s all in the name. Nourishing Storm Studio and Cafe. I started on my journey for inner peace about 2 years ago. August of 2015 I found the Storm. It’s been true love ever since. I had no true Yoga practice besides a night class at the local school. Now it’s been 6 months and I have found my happy place. Kristin and Megan are so much more than Yoga teachers. My favorite pose to date is Legs up the Wall. I don’t know how to explain why I just know that I feel grounded and happy when my legs are up the wall. I am grateful every day that I found such a nourishing community.”
